Subtitles, resume playback and frame capture in Filmeva
How to add subtitles to a video with Filmeva, how each file resumes where it left off, and how to save a frame of a video as PNG.
Filmeva plays the video and audio files on your computer in the browser. Files are played on this device; only the last positions are stored on this device. The three functions below are the most useful in everyday use.
Subtitles
An .srt or .vtt file with the same name as the video is attached to the video automatically when both are opened together. For example, if "Documentary.mp4" and "Documentary.srt" are selected at the same time, the subtitles are ready.
If the names differ, the subtitles are added by hand with Subtitles › Load subtitles…; the same command is also in the File menu. To turn subtitles off, choose Subtitles › No subtitles.
Resuming where you left off
The position of each file is saved. When the file is opened again, playback continues from there. To watch from the beginning, use the Start over button shown in the player. The playlist shows where each file was left off.
Frame capture
File › Take screenshot saves the current frame of the video as a PNG. The file name is taken from the name of the video.
Handy shortcuts
- Space or K: play / pause
- ← →: 5 seconds back / forward; J and L: 10 seconds back / forward
- [ and ]: slower / faster (between 0.5× and 2×)
- F: full screen; M: mute
- P and N: previous / next in the list
Picture in picture and filling or fitting the screen are in the Video menu.
Files that do not play
The formats that can be played depend on the browser; Chrome and Edge offer the widest support. Older formats such as AVI, WMV and MPEG-2, as well as AC-3 and DTS audio, cannot be played yet; broad format support is in preparation. DRM-protected videos and streams from a network address do not open.
For a music library, Melvona can be used; both applications open the same files.
Filmeva opens right away in the browser.
