Copying text from a screenshot
How Snapiko's text recognition reads the text in a screenshot on the device and copies it to the clipboard.
An error message, a PDF line that cannot be selected or a subtitle in a video: for text that appears on screen but cannot be copied, Snapiko recognises the text in the image. Recognition takes place on this device; the image is not sent anywhere.
Steps
- Take the image: Select area, Window or Full screen. The source is chosen in the browser's own window.
- An existing image can also be used: open a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF file with Open image…, or paste the image on the clipboard with Ctrl/⌘ V.
- In the Save and share panel, go to the Extract text section and press the Recognise text button.
- The recognised text is shown in the box. Copy text puts it on the clipboard.
For better results
- Text recognition is available for Turkish and English.
- Blurred areas are not recognised. Information hidden in an image to be shared does not end up in the recognised text either.
- If no text is found in the image, this is reported.
- The recognised text appears in the box; reviewing it before copying is recommended. Recognition may contain errors.
On a phone
Phone browsers do not show the screen capture buttons. A screenshot taken by the device itself is opened with Open image…; text recognition and markup work in the same way.
What else can be done with the same image?
Markup is added with arrows, rectangles, numbered steps, text and a highlighter; details such as account numbers or email addresses are hidden with the Blur tool. The image is copied with Copy to clipboard, saved with Save as PNG… or, on systems that support it, sent with Share…. Captures are kept with their markup in the Recent captures list.
In the browser, capturing with a keyboard shortcut (e.g. ⌘⇧2) is not possible; capturing is started from within the application. Scrolling captures of long pages are not available.
Snapiko opens right away in the browser.
