Exporting highlights and notes from a book as Markdown
How to highlight text, add notes and bookmark pages in Librelo, and export all bookmarks, highlights and notes of a book as a Markdown file.
Notes taken while reading often stay inside the book. Librelo keeps highlights, notes and bookmarks, and provides all the notes of a book as a single Markdown file. Books and notes are stored only on this device.
Adding highlights and notes
- Select some text in the book. The bubble that appears has four colours: yellow, green, blue and pink.
- Tapping a colour highlights the text.
- Add note attaches a note to the highlight; the note can be changed later with Edit note.
- To bookmark a page, use Bookmark this page (Ctrl/⌘ D).
Seeing everything together
The Bookmarks and notes panel in the reader tools lists all the bookmarks, highlights and notes of that book.
Exporting as Markdown
The Export bookmarks and notes… command in the same panel saves the book's bookmarks, highlights and notes as a Markdown file. This file can be opened in any text editor or in a notes application such as Jotella.
Good to know
- Highlighting is not available in PDFs; bookmarks can be used.
- DRM-protected e-books cannot be opened. The MOBI, AZW and CBR formats are not supported.
- The library, reading position and notes are not synced between devices. For a copy of the notes, use the Markdown export.
- When a book is removed from the library, its bookmarks and notes are deleted as well. Notes should be exported before removing the book. The book file itself is not affected.
Settings that make reading easier
In the appearance settings, the page colour (Paper, Sepia, Night), the typeface (the book's own font, serif or sans serif), font size, line spacing and margins can be changed. Reflowable text can be read in pages or by scrolling. The reading position is saved automatically and is kept even when the font size changes.
Librelo opens right away in the browser.
