Principles

Why does FigBell exist?

A simple task should not require starting a subscription, creating an account and uploading the file to a server. That is the idea behind FigBell.

I have been developing software for twenty years. FigBell grew out of my own needs.

A simple task such as merging a PDF or opening an archive often means signing up for a subscription somewhere. Then I forget about the subscription and the payments keep going. Sometimes I am also asked to upload the file to the server of a site I do not know. I did not want either.

What I expect from a tool

When I open a tool, I simply want it to do the job. Every FigBell product is built with that expectation:

  1. Simple. Each app focuses on one job; no manual is needed to get started.
  2. Gets the job done. What counts is the result, not the number of features. Each tool carries the work through to the end.
  3. Runs on your computer. Files are never sent to a server; everything works without an internet connection.
  4. Bought, not rented. There is no subscription. An app is bought once and is yours to keep.
  5. Fairly priced. An everyday tool should stay within everyone's reach.
  6. Files in common formats. Leaving FigBell never means leaving your files behind.

Why a family?

Everyday work does not fit into a single application: one day a PDF, the next day a presentation, then an archive or a diagram. FigBell applications are built on a shared interface library; the same menus, the same shortcuts and the same theme and language settings apply in every product. Once you have learned one, the others feel familiar.

What comes next

As we add new tools, we will announce them on this blog; on the products page you can also see what is planned, marked "Soon". The contact page is always open for your suggestions and feedback.
