Filling in and signing PDF forms
How to fill in form fields with Paginel and add a signature that is drawn, typed or taken from a photo. Everything happens in the browser.
Filling in and signing an application form does not require printing and scanning the document. Paginel fills in forms in the browser and adds the signature to the page; the file is not sent to any server.
Filling in the form
- Open the PDF and choose Fill & sign among the work modes. The tool of the same name on the home page also opens this mode.
- Click the fields in the form and fill them in: text, checkbox, option and list fields are supported.
- In a document without form fields, the Text, Check, Cross, Dot and Date tools in the toolbar write anywhere on the page.
Creating a signature
- Choose the Sign tool and press the New signature button. The Create signature window opens.
- Choose one of three ways. With Type, you type your name and use it as the signature. With Draw, the signature is drawn with a mouse, a pen or a finger; Clear starts over. With Upload image, you choose a photo or scan of a signature made on paper; the Remove white background option removes the white of the paper.
- Choose the Ink colour. If the signature should also be used in later documents, tick Save on this computer.
- Close the window with Place signature and put the signature where it belongs on the page.
Saved signatures appear as thumbnails in the toolbar; clicking one places it again. For a short signature, the same steps are followed with the Initials tool. If the form has a signature field, clicking the field is enough.
Saving
The document is saved with Save (Ctrl/⌘ S). In Chrome, Edge and Opera, the file is written to the location it was opened from; in Safari and Firefox, it is provided as a download. In a password-protected PDF, the same opening password is kept.
Good to know
- Signatures are images; certificate-based digital signatures are not supported. If an organisation requires a certified signature, another tool is needed.
- Saved signatures are stored only in the browser being used; at most six signatures are kept.
- Forms that contain only XFA are not supported.
Paginel opens right away in the browser.
