Frequently asked questions

Does cleaning reduce photo quality?

Not for JPEG, PNG and WebP: only the metadata sections are rewritten and the pixel data stays identical byte for byte. If HEIC or AVIF cannot be cleaned in place, it is saved as high-quality JPEG; this is stated on the result screen and in the report.

Are the original photos changed?

No. Clean copies are saved separately with a suffix added to their names; no file with the same name is overwritten.

Why are colour profile and orientation kept?

Without the colour profile, colours can look washed out or different; without the orientation, the photo can appear rotated. Neither is personal information; each can still be removed with its own switch.

Why does the embedded thumbnail matter?

Some programs do not update the small copy inside a photo when it is cropped, so that copy can show the part that was cut away. Scrubio shows it, and the "For sharing" and "Everything" presets remove it.

Known limitations

Functions not supported in the current version.

  • The image itself is not changed: faces, number plates or details in the background are not blurred.
  • Only JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC / HEIF and AVIF are opened; RAW files and videos are not supported.
  • If HEIC or AVIF cannot be cleaned in place, converting to JPEG requires a browser that can open the format; otherwise the file is not cleaned and this is reported.
  • Up to 2,000 photos are added from a folder, down to four levels of subfolders.
