Features

The screen is split into two halves; each player ends their move by tapping their own half. Time is measured from the device clock and stays accurate even if the tab is slowed down in the background.

Key features

Two halves, one tap
In portrait the halves are stacked, with the upper one facing the opposite player; in landscape they are side by side. A player ends their move by tapping their own half; before the first move, Black starts White's clock.
Time control types
Increment (Fischer), delay (Bronstein), simple delay (US) and hourglass; the time added or held per move is entered in seconds.
Presets and handicap
Presets from 1+0 to 90+30 and a custom time. Players can be given different times (handicap).
Accurate timing
Time is measured as a difference of performance.now(); below 20 seconds, tenths of a second are shown.
Low-time warning
When time runs low, the player's half changes colour and a beep sounds; when time runs out, a clear notice is shown.
Game information
Each player's move count and the duration of the last move are shown; the game can be paused, reset with confirmation and the sides swapped.
Sound and vibration
Sounds are generated on this device with Web Audio; vibration on devices that support it. The screen stays on during a game.
With the keyboard
Moves are ended with Space and the left and right Shift keys; pause, reset, sound and time control each have a single key.

Devices and browsers

  • On phones and tablets the halves face each other in portrait and sit side by side in landscape.
  • On a computer the game is played with the keyboard: left Shift is one player's button, right Shift the other's.
  • Vibration and keeping the screen on work in browsers and on devices that support these features.
