Frequently asked questions

Does it work the same for knitting and crochet?

The craft is chosen when the project is created; flat pieces are counted in rows, pieces in the round in rounds. The chart symbols depend on the craft; if the craft is changed later, the chart is deleted.

How does the pattern repeat work?

Enter the length of the pattern (e.g. 8 rows) and the row it starts on. As the main counter moves on, Purlio works out which pattern row and which repeat you are on and shows that row's instruction and its line on the chart.

I pressed once too often. What now?

The "−" button (or ⌫) goes back one row; Ctrl/⌘ Z undoes the last change. "Go to row…" jumps straight to the right row.

How are projects moved to another device?

Save one project or the whole library as a .purlio file and open it on the other device. "Back up…" carries all data and settings in a single file.

Known limitations

Functions not supported in the current version.

  • Purlio is a counter, not a pattern library: instructions and the chart are entered by the user.
  • The chart is up to 80 stitches × 120 rows and is drawn with symbols; there are no colourwork charts.
  • Reminders are shown while the app is open; no system notification is sent.
  • The length estimate is based on the gauge; measurements can change after washing and blocking.
