Features
When a row is finished, tap the large "Row done" button; Purlio moves the count on, shows which pattern row you are on with its instruction, advances linked counters and reminds you of what is due. Flat pieces are counted in rows, pieces in the round in rounds.
Key features
- Row done
- A large button in the middle of the screen; Space or Enter also move to the next row, "−" goes back one row and "Go to row…" jumps straight to a row. With a total number of rows entered, rows left and progress are shown. A short vibration on tap on devices that support it.
- Pattern repeat and instructions
- Enter how many rows the pattern repeats over and which row it starts on, and write an instruction for each pattern row. As the counter moves on, the pattern row, the repeat number and that row's instruction are shown; for flat pieces, right side / wrong side too.
- Pattern chart
- An optional grid chart (up to 80 stitches × 120 rows). Knitting symbols: knit, purl, knit through back loop, cable back / front, yarn over, knit two together, slip slip knit, make one, slip, no stitch. Crochet symbols: chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, increase, decrease, magic ring. With a legend; the current row is highlighted on the chart.
- Extra counters
- For things counted separately from the main counter: counted by hand (balls of yarn used, motifs), counters that go up each time the pattern starts again, and counters that move "every N rows" (e.g. a decrease every 6 rows; enter the first row and how many times). You are told when a counter is due.
- Row reminders
- Write tasks for a given row, such as "Row 50: open the pocket"; when that row is reached, a notice appears and devices that support it vibrate. The next reminder is shown in advance.
- Screen on and knitting time
- The screen stays on while a project is open (can be turned off in the settings). Knitting time is kept per project; it starts by itself when "Row done" is pressed and is paused with its button or the T key.
- Gauge and length
- Enter stitches and rows over 10 cm (or 4 inches) and the length knitted, the length of the remaining rows and the total length are estimated; centimetres or inches.
- Projects
- Craft (knitting / crochet), shape (flat / in the round), total rows, yarn, needle or hook size and notes. Projects can be duplicated (the counter starts again) and renamed; finished projects move to the "Finished" list and can be reopened.
- Samples
- On first launch there are five samples: the front of a cabled sweater, a ribbed hat, a herringbone scarf, a crocheted amigurumi bear and a finished baby blanket. Samples can be edited or deleted, and "Add the samples again" brings them back.
- Pattern output
- Project details, row instructions, the chart and its legend, extra counters and notes: print, PDF, and share with the device's own share feature.
- Files and backup
- One project or the whole library is saved, opened and shared as a .purlio file. "Back up…" puts all Purlio data and settings into a single file, and "Restore from backup…" brings them back on the same or another device.
- Works offline
- Counters, the chart, reminders and output work without an internet connection; no account is needed.
Devices and browsers
- On a desktop, projects are on the left, the counter in the middle and the project's details on the right. On a phone and a tablet in portrait, the bottom bar holds Counter, Projects, Project and More.
- While knitting, the phone or tablet sits on the table; the "Row done" button is large enough to press with a single tap. On a computer, the Space key is enough.
- Vibration and keeping the screen on work where the device and browser support them; otherwise their settings are hidden. On phones, PDF and sharing take the place of printing.
