Frequently asked questions, known limitations and system requirements for Tabliva.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used without connecting to a database?

Yes. The schema is written; the diagram, problems and normalization all work. The plan is built against the migrations folder or a snapshot, and SQL and migration files are generated. A live connection is optional and only in the desktop application.

Is my schema sent anywhere?

No. Project files stay on this device or in the connected folder. On the desktop, the connection to a live database is made directly from this computer; the schema, queries and passwords do not pass through FigBell.

How do I start from an existing database?

Open the output of pg_dump --schema-only, mysqldump --no-data or SQLite .schema with "Import"; tables and relationships are converted to Tabliva files. In the desktop application, the schema can also be read directly from the database.

How does the plan change the database?

Tabliva shows the plan first: each step with its risks, such as data loss or table locking. The plan is saved as a migration file or SQL; on the desktop it can also be applied directly to the connected database. Steps with data loss ask for confirmation and for the database name to be typed.

Known limitations

Functions not supported in the current version.

  • A live database connection is available only in the desktop application and only for PostgreSQL and MySQL / MariaDB; for SQLite, SQL and migration files are generated.
  • SQL Server, Oracle and NoSQL databases are not supported.
  • Prisma and Atlas HCL import and command-line / CI support are not available yet.
  • Views, triggers and functions are kept as raw SQL blocks as they are and written to the plan as they are.
  • Tabliva does not run queries or show table data; Keyvera is used for that.
