Frequently asked questions, known limitations and system requirements for Rayora.

Frequently asked questions

What are golden hour and blue hour?

Golden hour is when the sun is close to the horizon and the light is warm and soft; by default Rayora uses the time the sun is between −4° and +6°. Blue hour is the short time when the sun is just below the horizon (−6° to −4°) and the sky turns deep blue. The limits can be changed in the settings.

Is my location sent anywhere?

No. The location is read once, only when "I'm here" is pressed, and stays on this device. The list of cities is built in; times are calculated on the device.

Why did the sun disappear before the time shown?

Times are calculated for a flat horizon. If mountains, buildings or trees raise the horizon, the sun disappears earlier; allow for this at the start of golden hour.

How is a reminder set?

With "Remind me", choose the light, how long before and which days. In the phone app the notification arrives even when Rayora is closed; in the browser the app needs to be open. Exported to a calendar (.ics), the calendar app reminds you too.

Known limitations

Functions not supported in the current version.

  • Times are calculated for a flat horizon; mountains, buildings or trees can hide the sun earlier.
  • There is no weather or cloud forecast; Rayora tells you when the light happens, not whether the sky will be clear.
  • There is no map. The list of cities holds cities with more than 500,000 people, capitals and Türkiye's provincial centres (1,389 cities); other places are added by coordinates or with "I'm here".
  • In the browser, Rayora must be open for reminder notifications; an exported .ics file reminds you through the calendar app.
