Features
Shapes are dragged from the library, connected with the arrows on their edges and laid out automatically with a single click. Files are in draw.io format and also open in draw.io and diagrams.net.
Key features
- draw.io files
- Opens compressed or plain .drawio files and .drawio.svg images; groups, edge labels and arrowheads are preserved. Saved files open in draw.io and diagrams.net.
- Quick connect
- Clicking the arrow on the edge of a selected shape copies the shape in that direction and connects it; dragging the arrow into empty space creates a new shape, and dropping it on another shape connects the two.
- Shape libraries
- Basic shapes, flowchart, UML (class, actor, use case, lifeline), network and server, mind map; the library can be searched.
- Connectors
- Orthogonal, straight and curved connectors; waypoints are dragged, arrowheads (filled, open, diamond, circle) are chosen and the direction is reversed with a single click.
- Automatic layout
- The diagram or a selected part is arranged in layers from top to bottom or from left to right; crossing connections are reduced.
- Export
- PNG (1×, 2×, 3×), SVG and SVG that can be edited again in draw.io; the whole page or only the selection, on a white or transparent background.
- Pages
- Multiple pages in one file; pages are renamed, duplicated and reordered.
- Alignment and grid
- Align, distribute evenly, same width / height; snapping to the grid can be turned on and off.
- Text, notes and freehand drawing
- Double-clicking a shape or connector lets you type text; there are sticky note and freehand drawing tools.
- Drafts
- Open diagrams are kept on this device even if they have not been saved; when the page is closed and reopened, work continues where it left off.
Devices and browsers
- On touch screens shapes are moved with a finger; zooming and scrolling use two fingers.
- On phones the tools are at the bottom of the screen, and the library and format panel are in a bottom sheet.
- Saving a file in place is available in Chrome, Edge and Opera; in other browsers the saved file is downloaded.
